Volkswagen launched the original Golf GTI 35 years ago, and over the decades, this iconic hot hatch conquered the hearts of car enthusiasts and largely contributed to the automaker's success around the globe.
To celebrate the milestone, Volkswagen created a very special type of anniversary model called 'GTI Edition 35', sporting exclusive design cues and a more spirited engine.
The world-famous 2.0L TSI just got boosted to 235 PS (232 bhp) following a series of revisions, while the lowered ride height should make corners even more fun to slice.
In terms of styling, the VW GTI Edition 35 features new alloy wheels and several blacked-out components, including the mirror caps, front grille and headlight/taillight clusters.
The interior received a baseball-shaped shift knob, cloth-covered sports seats with exclusive honeycomb patterns as well as embroidered ''Edition 35'' logos on the front seat backs and head restraints.
This unique GTI is already available in Germany for €30,425. Will it make the jump to North America? Don't count on it. Remember, we never got the 30th anniversary model in 2006.
