Volkswagen and Microsoft have just joined forces to develop a new in-car entertainment system delivering ''an outstanding multimedia experience'' and potentially signalling the end of DVD players in VW vehicles.
Their joint technology will allow users to quickly move large data files between devices, something electronics companies like Olympus, Panasonic, Sanyo and Sony have been known for. Such innovation has never been applied to cars, though.
With the project in its early stages, no further information was released by Volkswagen. Therefore, it's impossible for now to identify the models that will first feature the new system.
Microsoft has partnerships with other automakers, including Fiat, Ford and Toyota, to provide in-car infotainment functions.
