Ryan Newman is one of a number of people who are wondering if NASCAR officials are going to penalize Juan Pablo Montoya for running into him midway through Saturday night's Sprint cup race in Richmond.

The two have a history of animosity going back to the Colombian driver's Sprint Cup debut in Homestead, in 2006, when Newman ran into the back of Montoya precipitating a big fire in Montoya's car.

Fast forward to Talladega where the two drivers were in contact with 17-laps remaining.

Newman helped Montoya into the wall at Richmond on lap 108 damaging the ex-Formula One driver's rear spoiler.

On lap 238 Montoya did his best "have at it, boys," impression sending Newman spinning and ending a possible good result.

Newman radioed his team that he wanted to take care of the incident, personally, after the race.

Following the checkered flag Newman went straight to the NASCAR officials' hauler while Montoya rode a golf cart out of the track which is his custom.

"I don't know that you can have that. I mean, I know that (Montoya) ran up on me off of (Turn) 2 there and I clipped him. I mean, I'm not going to try to dump myself into the wall," Newman said.

"But to retaliate the way he did just didn't show much class."

Three-time NASCAR champion and television broadcaster Darrell Waltrip tweeted that Montoya returned to meet with officials, but later recanted that story as without any basis.

Early last year series' officials said that they would be allowing drivers more flexibility in self-policing, which leaves observers and fans wondering what, if any remedial action NASCAR will take.
