French tire manufacturer Michelin wants to make its return in the World Rally Championship next season following its withdrawal from the series in 2005.

As the FIA will now allows several tire suppliers to compete in WRC from next season (Pirelli was the official tire supplier since 2008), Michelin’s competition director Nick Shorrock revealed to Autosport.com that the French company has the desire to return in rallying next season.

Michelin kept a presence in WRC in 2006 and 2007 through its parent company BF Goodrich, but now would like to be back in the series under his own name.

The FIA will release the name of the tires suppliers for next year on September 13. But Michelin already begun a development program in South of France, with Frenchman Stéphane Sarrazin and Finn Marcus Gronholm, who is rumoured to make his own return in WRC with MINI next season.
