The prestigious Monte Carlo Rally will not be part of the World Rally Championship next year, again.

The prestigious rally, which the first edition was run in… 1911, left the WRC organisation two years ago. The Monte Carlo Rally became the opening round of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge.

The race’s organizers choose to remain part of the IRC series, unwilling to return to a highly formatted style of event the way WRC rounds are now organised. The managers the event have also been surprised by the unexpected success of the Monte Carlo ran under the IRC banner.

This year WRC regular driver Mikko Hirvonen won the Monte Carlo IRC rally. Hirvonen was then driving the new Ford Fiesta S2000.

In 2009, Frenchman Sébastien Ogier clinched victory with a Peugeot 207.
