Yvan Muller (Chevrolet) won both opening rounds of the World Touring Car Champiosnhip at Monza, after he survived a spin at 200 km/h in race 2.
After he won race 1 after a great fight with Gabriele Tarquini’s Seat Leon TDi, Yvan Muller struck again in a chaotic race 2.
The Frenchman was forced to start the race from the middle of the field as the starting order for race 2 was determinated by the reverse top 10 order of qualifying session.
Entering lap 2, Muller was pushed from behind under braking by his teammate Rob Huff. Muller's car spun at some 200 km/h. Miraculously, Muller did not hit anything and reentered the track without any damage.
Norbert Michelisz (BMW 320 TC) started the race from pole positon and led the pack only to be passed by the flying Muller at mid-race.
Michelisz then went backward as his BMW began to handle strangely following a contact with... a bird. The Hungarian driver eventually finished 8th while Muller clinched his second victory of the weekend. Muller led a 1-2-3 sweep for Chevrolet, Rob Huff finishing second, and Alain Menu third.
