By publishing the official entry list for the 2015 championship, the FIA (Fédération internationale de l'automobile) has confirmed the rebirth of the Manor Marussia F1 Team.
The team had suspended its activities last Fall, in debt and lacking funds, its partner Marussia having decided to terminate its commitment. The outfit missed the final three Grands Prix of the 2014 season. Senior management, determined to save the team, had been seeking new investors ever since. Their efforts are now paying off as agreements have been signed, although the identities behind a consortium of investors have not yet been divulged. Over the last few weeks, Manor stated its intention to begin the season with a 2014 car modified to 2015 standards, to be raced while the new car is being built. A few days ago, Will Stevens was confirmed as one of the team's drivers (no word yet on his future teammate) and the team announced it will race in Australia, first round of the 2015 championship (March 13-15). On the entry list, the team appears as “Manor Marussia F1 Team”, which is a transitional designation serving to meet certain requirements regarding F1's revenue distribution. To obtain the funds of the previous year, there must be some form of continuity in the team's name. As planned, Manor Marussia will be powered by Ferrari. However, the FIA indicates that Steven's nomination is “subject to the holding of a super licence” which is essential for Formula 1 drivers. Additionally, Caterham does not appear on the list, which confirms the demise of the team after five years of effort without a top 10 finish. Recent Articles
