According to two well informed British sources, the person who wrote the original blog post saying that Honda in facto still owned 111 shares of Brawn GP was unfortunately mistaken.
The original story published yesterday mentioned that Honda Motor Company was the major shareholders of the Brawn GP team with 111 shares while Ross Brawn only had 89. Accounting records of British companies are available to the public. And our friends at Brawngp_fanblog and Brits On Pole have done extensive research about the ownership of the team. “It is true that a total of 200 shares have been issued and it is also true that there is no record of the 111 shares previously owned by Honda changing hands,” Andrew Murdoch of Brawngp_fanblog told us. “A company is under no obligation to file this information until the end of their accounting year.” “Records of ownership prove that Honda did own 111 shares last autumn and Ross Brawn later bought 89. It is impossible to tell from here, however, what happened to the 111 Honda shares as there is no requirement from companies to notify some sort of transaction. We'll need to wait for the next annual report to be filed to get an accurate picture,” added Andy of Brits On Pole. Another fact is extremely interesting. “There is the press statement dated March 6th that explicitly states: ‘The entire shares of the HRF1, held by Honda GP Holdings Ltd., the UK-based holding company for HRF1 that managed all operations of Honda’s Formula One racing, were sold to Ross Brawn,” Andy said. The reports posted on Companies House are only snapshots of the companies at the moment they are taken. At the moment, is that (although Companies House has only part of the picture and this makes it confusing) Ross Brawn does indeed own the whole outfit and Honda have no remaining holding.
