Reigning World Champion, Lewis Hamilton mocked the comments made by Red Bull Racing, who demanded that Formula 1's regulations be modified to allow other teams to catch up to Mercedes.
The Mercedes AMG team has the best car, but also a power unit, which has been dominating the field since last year, when the V6 turbo hybrids were inaugurated. Engine manufacturer Ferrari slightly reduced the gap while Renault, Red Bull's partner, is trying to do the same. But after finishing the first round of the 2015 championship one lap behind Mercedes, Red Bull asked the FIA to rein in its rival or give greater development leeway to the other engine manufacturers, and it did so on the evening of the Australian Grand Prix. For a team which had previously dominated F1 for four years, such comments were surprising. Even Ferrari, who often defended a similar stance over the years, now says that the solution lies in the team's efforts. Lewis Hamilton believes Red Bull should do like others did in the past when teams such as McLaren, Williams or Ferrari dominated: “They just worked their arses off.” “I find it quite funny”, commented Hamilton, as the Malaysian GP weekend begins, regarding Red Bull Racing's position. “It's an interesting opinion coming from individuals who have had so much success. It's only been one race, so to already have comments is what I find funny.” Hamilton pointed out that his team fought for several years before gaining the ability to conquer Formula 1. “Not once did (Mercedes) ever complain to others in order to equalize things”, declared the reigning World Champion. “Now we are the best team. We've pulled together and done an amazing job. I'm really very proud of that.”
