As expected, Mercedes dominated the third day of the last winter test, Saturday in Barcelona.
Lewis Hamilton, who replaced his teammate Nico Rosberg behind the wheel of the W06, continued to show huge potential from Brackley, topping the charts with a harder tire compound.
Indeed, even with soft tires, the Brit had no problem beating Felipe Massa's benchmark from the morning session, which the Brazilian had established on a set of super-softs. Almost all the teams managed to complete at least 100 laps. Only Hamilton, who was busy with aero work, setup analysis and performance tests, and Kevin Magnussen, standing in for Alonso, did less.
"It wasn't a particularly spectacular day," said Hamilton. "The track seems to have lost a bit of grip in the last few days so the feeling wasn't as good. But I'm still glad we got some running done and I feel good in the car." During Saturday alone, Mercedes power units completed a total of 2,104 kilometres.
