Memo Rojas and Scott Pruett took a seventh victory in 2010 yesterday at Watkins Glen International. Although the victory was incontestable, the team leading 60 of the 99 laps, Max Angelelli and Rick Taylor finished only 2.722 seconds away from their rivals.
The race was virtually undisturbed as only two late cautions slowed the pace. Pruett led both without problems, Angelelli trailing him. The victorious duo only lost the lead on Rojas’ run to Taylor until a pit stop allowed Pruett to take back first position. Angelelli was then unable to catch up with him, two GT cars intercalating them. This new victory allows Rojas and Pruett to remain on top of the championship standing, 26 points ahead of closest rival Ryan Dalziel, fourth at The Glen. In GT class, Leh Keen took the lead on the last restart, leaving Jonathan Bomarito and teammate Sylvain Tremblay – who led 82 of the 92 laps – with the second spot on the podium. Paul Edwards and Scott Russell also made a last minute move, this time on championship leaders Jeff Segal and Emil Assentato. They completed the podium. Segal and Assentato keep the lead of the championship, Tremblay trailing them by only four points. Bomarito is 23 points short of the lead in third standing position. Two races remain to this 2010 season, the next one in Montreal on August 28th and a last one near Salt Lake City (Miller Motorsports Park) on September 11th.
