IRL: Franchitti to Ganassi - Wheldon to PantherTarget Chip Ganassi Racing has announced that NASCAR driver and former IRL champion Dario Franchitti will join the team next year alongside Scott Dixon.
After winning the IndyCar title in 2007, Franchitti decided to join the Ganassi team in the Sprint Cup series along with some races in the Nationwide series. Unfortunately for the Scot, lack of sponsorship forced Ganassi to put an end to Franchitti's aspirations to pursue a career in stock car racing as operations for the No.40 car were shut down. He will replace fellow Briton Dan Wheldon at Ganassi. The team had attempted to replace 2005 champion Wheldon with Tony Kanaan last month. Meanwhile, only a few hours after Ganassi hired Franchitti, Panther Racing announced that Briton Dan Wheldon would join them next year. Wheldon will drive the No.4 car that has been occupied by Vitor Meira for the past three seasons. |
