Kuno Wittmer stayed out of the trouble around him and drove flawless to his first World Challenge victory on the Virginia International Raceway in his No. 44 Realtime Acura. For eleven laps, Wittmer kept pressuring race leader and pole sitter Chip Herr until he braked too late coming into a corner. At the same time Kleinubing took control of the race and Wittmer was still in hot pursuit. When his teammate went slightly off course, he claimed the lead with three laps remaining and managed to hold off a charging Seth Thomas to score his first World Challenge victory and take the lead in the current standings.
