Audi starts its 2011 season this week-end in Bathurst, Australia. The Audi R8 LMS of Team Joest did it in great fashion by getting the pole position on Saturday.
The Australian driver trio Warren Luff/Craig Lowndes/Mark Eddy clinched first place ahead of the sister car of Marc Basseng/Christopher Mies/Darryl O’Young. The individual best time of each driver was taken into account to determine the starting grid of this event. Warren Luff took the best time of the Audi drivers with a lap of 2:09.600. The pole is a great added value for the team that approached qualifying as a last chance to practice before the race, notably sending its drivers out with full fuel loads. "The 12 hour race will be a long day. It’ll be no different to any normal endurance race: look after the car, look after the fuel consumption and hopefully be on the lead lap at the end of the last hour," said Craig Lowndes. The $5,000 award for pole position was donated by the drivers to the victims of the floodings and of cyclone Yasi that have hit the host country recently. Audi Australia doubled the sum for a total of $10,000 donated to the Premier’s Disaster Relief Appeal.
