NASCAR point leader
Jimmie Johnson (Chevy No 48) led the most laps and then went on to win the Sprint Cup Checker O'Reilly Auto Parts 500 at the Phoenix International Raceway on Sunday afternoon.
This was the next to last 2008 Cup race leading to the championship in which Kurt Busch (Dodge No 2) finished second and Jamie McMurray (Ford No 26) ended up third.
Carl Edwards (Ford No 99) was the only serious contender to threaten Johnson but he finished fourth giving the point leader a 141 point advantage heading to the last race of the season next Sunday in Homestead, Florida.
