Porsche will be racing the GT3 R Hybrid at the Petit LeMans at Road Atlanta on October 2nd.
As part of the green initiative the ALMS and Porsche North America showed off the KERS-based hybrid (introduced in Formula One by the Williams Team) in New York City ahead this weekend’s Lime Rock event. Its’ maiden voyage was the 24 Hours of Nurburgring where it led until two hours to go.
ALMS officials said it would run an “experimental” category because Scott Atherton CEO said “the technology is so leading edge that we don’t have rules for the car.” American driver, Patrick Long, eagerly awaits his chance to race it in his home country. He said he enjoys the extra boost five-to-seven seconds of power which is generated by braking. On the other hand, he said, with a laugh, that the system “having an extra button for the engineers to play with is dangerous.” Auto123.com also spoke to Atherton about the series future in Canada. “We are rock solid at Mosport. We may be looking at a date change for next year. We’ve had a couple of inquiries from other venues but right now I don’t see that coming together for 2011 but if anything for 2012.” Atherton added that the series is heavily committed to Canada, “the fact that a legitimate global leader of green racing is coming to Canada is a good calling card and we actually have quite a bit of Canadian content in the series; drivers, teams and manufacturers that race with us have manufacturing facilities in Canada. And there’s more linkage there than meets the eye.” Recent Articles
