David Reutimann (Camry No 00) had the pole at the Monster Mile of the Dover International Speedway on Sunday afternoon for the NASCAR Sprint Cup race.
But all eyes were turned toward Kyle Busch (Camry No 18) who had already lost the Nationwide and the Camping World races on Saturday. He was off to a nice start, thinking about a vengeance, but like many other competitors, he had probably not counted on Jimmie Johnson (Chevy No 48). The Hendrick Motorsport driver quickly made it up to the front, leading the better part of the Authism Speaks 400, some 298 of the 400 laps. Johnson seemed untouchable but on the very last yellow flag neutralisation, his pit crew had a miscue. He had come in the leader, he came out seventh with less than 30 laps to go. But he rapidly got around all the drivers and, with less than ten laps to go, he was gaining on Gregg Biffle (Ford No 16) who was leading the race closely followed by Tony Stewart (Chevy No 14). Stewart got around Biffle with a handful of laps to go. Johnson followed Stewart, took advantage of the situation and pressed on Stewart., passing him with three laps to go. Incredibly, Johnson won his second race of the season followed by Stewart, Biffle, Matt Kenseth (Ford No 17) and Kurt Busch (Dodge No 2). Kyle Busch had tire troubles and ended up 23rd. The big question of the race was to see what Dale Earnhardt (Chevy No 88) would do without his former crew chief Tony Eury Jr replaced by Lance McGrew. Well, he finally finished 12th after running with the leaders. With this second place, Stewart now leads the championship with 46 points ahead of Jeff Gordon (he finished 26th at Dover), Jimmie Johnson, Kurt Busch and Ryan Newman, Stewart's teammate. The next Sprint Cup race will be held next Sunday afternoon at the Pocono Raceway.
