While in the midst of restructuring, General Motors will be forced to cut out factory support for Chevrolet teams competing in NASCAR's Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series.
According to Sports Business Journal, the cost-cutting measures are likely to have the greatest affect on larger organisations, such as Kevin Harvick Inc, which fields teams in both series, Rusty Wallace Inc and JR Motorsports, which field teams in the Nationwide Series. Manufacturers support typically comes in the forms of engines, parts and cash. In most cases, factory support goes to larger, more substantial organisations. Earlier this week, Richard Petty Motorsports stated that they had been forced to make cuts in salaries and personnel as Dodge, following the bankruptcy of Chrysler, postponed a large payment that was supposed to be made to the team.
