NASCAR penalizes Roush Fenway Nationwide Team for Engine Rules Violation

NASCAR officials today announced a $30,000 (USD) fine against Roush Fenway crew chief, Eddie Pardue, and docked 100 Nationwide championship points from owner, Jack Roush, and Matt Kenseth of the #17 Ford for an engine rules violation.

In a statement NASCAR said "Crew chief Eddie Pardue has been fined $30,000 for violating Section 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing); 12-4-J (Race equipment that has been previously sealed by NASCAR for use in an event) and sub-section 8-6 (Failure to submit the sealed engine from the race winner for inspection; removal of the seal from the winning engine without authorization from NASCAR) of the 2009 NASCAR Nationwide Series rule book."

The engine in question was for Kenseth’s win at Darlington in May.

In the Nationwide series race-winning engines are supposed to be torn down after the race, or can be sealed. NASCAR rules allow Nationwide engines to be run a maximum of three races. After the third race with that engine the Roush Fenway team was required to submit that motor for a NASCAR tear down which was not done.
