Vettel Takes 10-Spot Grid Penalty for U.S. GP
An engine rule infringement has earned Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel a 10-spot grid penalty for this weekend’s United States Grand Prix, boosting Lewis Hamilton’s chances of repeating as F1 champion. Vettel currently sits 66 points behind the British two-time champion driver with just four races remaining. A victory for Hamilton on Sunday combined with a third-or-worse finish for Vettel will eliminate any chance the latter has of catching the former. Carlos Sainz, head of the Italian Formula One team, stated that the team would stick to the current specs rather than embark on the changes which it believes offer insufficient advantages to make it worth the extra grid penalties they would entail. An announcement came from the IAF today regarding the appointment of Leonardo DiCaprio to chair a sustainability committee, which will be tasked with looking at how to combat some of the world’s most pressing environmental issues. DiCaprio for his part stressed the importance of further developing electric cars to ease the strain on the environment caused by burgeoning urban populations in the coming decades. Dubbed Horizon, the lone Canadian entry in this year’s edition, was designed and built by students at the University of Toronto going under the name Blue Sky Solar Racing. The car’s run is supported by two support cars, 17 support people and three drivers.
