Conor Daly had the best of rival Connor De Phillippi this week-end in Road America as a 0.300 seconds gap in qualifying became a win and a third place in the race.
Polesitter Daly dropped to third but made his way back to first by lap 5 of round 11 or the 2010 Star Mazda Championship. He also managed to stay on top after a one-lap restart following a full-course yellow near the end of the race. Venezuelan driver Jorge Goncalvez separated the two Con(n)ors with a second place finish, 1.5 seconds behind Daly. De Phillippi finally took his first podium finish by rounding up the podium. Quebec driver Mikaël Grenier, starting 4th, was second for the first five laps of the race but fell back to 9th and then 16th after a broken transmission cable ruined his chances at victory. He did not finish the race. In the Expert and Master classes, the winners were unchanged from last week’s Trois-Rivières showing, J.W. Roberts taking victory in the Master Series and Carlos Conde in the Expert Series. Roberts has clinched the 2010 in class title with an eighth victory this season. In the overall standing, Anders Krohn keeps intact his chances at the championship with a fourth place finish in Road America, although there would be a need for drama in the Daly camp for him to be allowed the 2010 title. Sixty-nine points now separate the two drivers with a maximum of 42 points allowed for a perfect week-end. De Phillippi is still leading the Rookie of the Year portion of the championship with a ten points lead over Tristan Vautier, 13th in Road America. There are two races remaining to the 2010 championship.
