2002 Chrysler Concorde - The LHS is Gone, But Wait a Minute

The big news from Chrysler this year is the demise of the top-line LHS sedan. But wait a minute. One look at the photo makes it seem apparent that Chrysler simply axed the Concorde and then renamed the LHS. But why get rid of a perfectly good model, especially one as attractive as the previous generation Concorde? That's simple. With the Intrepid and 300M solid in their positions of LH platform entry and premium models respectively, the old LHS and Concorde made each other redundant. To reduce overall costs, the Concorde and LHS were combined and simply dubbed Concorde.

So, is the new model merely an LHS with a Concorde badge? Yes and no. Yes, the new Concorde's exterior design's tall, narrow egg crate grille, quad projector fog and headlamps, bodyside moulding and rear fascia topped by a sculpted trunk adorned with Chrysler's winged emblem is more or less identical to last year's LHS. But no, its entry level interior trim is not as luxurious and features not as replete as the LHS. Yet that should be expected. After all, the 2002 Concorde LX starts at only $29,690, not even close to last years LHS sticker. Dish out the $40,000 plus for the Concorde Limited and the answer to the previous question is yes. Its leather trim, electroluminescent gauges, and real wood garnished interior virtually mirrors the luxury laden 2001 LHS.
