2002 Honda Accord - Popular for Good Reason

It doesn't take long to get acquainted once inside as each switch and every button is intuitively placed - every one that is, except the power sunroof control which is in an unlikely position on the dash just left of the steering column. Leg and headroom is not a problem as the Accord's interior dimensions belie its tight, efficient exterior. Convenient touches abound such as cup holders for rear passengers in the folding centre armrest. The quality of materials is first rate, which goes hand in glove with the Accord's superb fit and finish. Even the stereo, complete with a dash mounted CD player and steering wheel controls, is above average for a stocker.

Turn over the ignition and you'll be surprised at how quiet the optional V6 is. After all, this is a mid-priced, middle class sedan, not a premium product. Still, like the rest of the car, the engine boasts a level of quality that a person not acquainted with Honda products wouldn't expect. With the right foot planted on the accelerator it catapults forward from standstill with smooth and effortless authority - about 7.6 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h. What's more, there's virtually no torque steer - the bane of front-wheel drive cars. By the way, the standard 150-hp 4-cylinder is also a satisfying engine that offers superb fuel economy.
