2004 Jaguar X-Type Wagon

When the wagon version of the Jaguar X-Type arrives in a couple of months, it will carry a base MSRP of $43,195 for the 2.5 Wagon version and $46,995 for the 3.0 Wagon, both of which will come with all-wheel-drive.

According to Vic Bernardini of Jaguar Canada, this model ''gives drivers the option of a premium wagon with no compromise on the style or driving dynamics expected of a Jaguar.''

He adds that Jaguar's first-ever production wagon (which will not be sold in the U.S.) ''continues the British marque's expansion into important market segments where previously it has not been represented.'' Not the word ''continues'' rather than ''concludes.''

Bernardini says that style is now a key motivation when choosing a wagon, with a large number of purchasers citing it as their number one consideration. ''Dynamics are also very important,'' he adds, ''with owners refusing to compromise on the driving experience they want from their car.''

On top of that, he notes, today's wagon buyers are ''on average significantly younger than their sedan car counterparts. They are also more likely to participate in active sports than they are to be spectators. In short, they demand a car that complements their lifestyle -- and the new X-Type Wagon is just that vehicle.

Essentially an X-Type sedan with unique new body styling and structure from the B-pillars back (including rear doors and roof), the X-Type Wagon offers an unrivalled combination of luxury, refinement and versatility, Bernardini says.
