Jag Price Change

Jaguar Canada will soon add a station wagon version to its all-wheel-drive X-Type line, but to keep up interest in the sedan model the Bramalea-based firm will upgrade the equipment level on its X-Type 3.0 model.

The X-Type 3.0 now retails for $44,995 (down form $48,195 in 2003) and includes a moonroof, which means the price has dropped almost $5,000 when you include the new equipment. There are also new 17-inch wheels and tires on this model.

There have also been upgrades all across the X-Type sedan lineup -- a space saver spare tire, two front cupholders, new Sapele wood trim on fascia, centre console and all four doors, and a 140-watt AM/FM/CD radio with six speakers.

Vic Bernardini, president of Aston Martin Jaguar Land Rover Canada, points out that the 3.0-litre, 227-hp model is now almost $2,000 less than an equivalent BMW 330i, which doesn't include an automatic transmission. The 3.0 model comes with either a five-speed manual or a five-speed automatic as standard equipment, to suit the driver's taste.

Bernardini maintains that the 2004 X-TYPE ''is positioned aggressively against our competition and now offers even more value to the consumer. This is one of the most significant cars Jaguar has ever built, and we're confident the 2004 model will appeal to a wide variety of the car-buying public."

The X-TYPE 2.5-litre lists for $41,195 and is equipped with a 192-hp V6 and a standard five-speed manual transmission, with a five-speed electronic automatic optional. For 2004, this model also gets 16-inch all-season tires and Tobego wheels.

On top of that, Jaguar Canada has re-configured a pair of option packages to suit buyer demand the X1 New Highline Package ($1,300) for the 2.5 model, and the X2 Sport Package ($5,000) for the 3.0 model.

The New Highline Package includes 17" wheels with all season tires and a unique design, and burl walnut veneer, chrome exterior trim with additions, contrast interior trim details, a premium entertainment system with a 6-cd trunk-mounted changer, the X1 Premium Package and the X3 Weather Package.

The X Sport Package includes 18- Aruba wheels with performance tires, Dynamic Stability Control, a monochromatic exterior, a premium ICE with single Disc CD player head unit (Alpine 320 Watt system), a sport-tuned suspension, Xenon headlamps, and sport seats.
