Coming to Canada!

I liked the Lexus GX 470 the first time that I set eyes on it at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit last year. It's a bold design, a little on the tough side compared to the RX but still as refined in appearance as any Lexus SUV.

I immediately asked Toyota-Lexus Canada's corporate communications point man F. David Stone when it would be coming north of the 49th, but even if he knew then he wasn't about to tell me - smart man. I remember petitioning him that it would be a good idea, but that's about where it ended.

Suffice it to say that I was happy to hear the news it is finally on its way. Due to arrive in mid-February of next year, Lexus is already running spot TV ads featuring a silver GX drifting sideways on a bed of snow, with the appropriate Christmas tune "Let it Snow" lilting away in the background.

Why it took TCI so long to bring this model to Canada is anyone's guess. It couldn't be more perfectly suited to our marketplace, expected to be much lower in price than the $99,950 LX and smaller too, resulting in improved fuel economy - something dear to a Canadian's heart.

"Customers have asked us for a vehicle with more rugged utility than the RX 330 provides without stepping all the way up to an LX 470," said Larry Hutchinson, National Manager of Lexus in Canada. "That makes the GX 470 a superb complement to the existing lineup of Lexus sport utility vehicles and provides an excellent reason for those customers to buy a Lexus."
