Spicing things up
With every generation, Hyundai gives new life to the Sonata by performing a substantial mid-cycle update. This time, however, the improvements are subtle; yet, they manage to enhance the quality of this midsize sedan. Truth is, in its quest to become the world's fifth-largest automaker, the Korean manufacturer positively eliminated or mitigated most of the irritants of the Sonata.

The car is still pleasant to look at while displaying even more class.

The exterior design only gets a few modifications, including a new front grille, a reworked front bumper, larger headlights and redesigned taillights. Only a keen eye will be able to tell the difference, though. There's nothing spectacular to report about. Overall, the car is still pleasant to look at while displaying even more class.

The incredibly-plain interior has been tastefully updated. I would even go as far as to establish a visual connection between the Hyundai Sonata and the Cadillac CTS or Infiniti G35. Yes, the new cabin is that nice. Material selection, fit and finish are good, while the overall quality feel is undeniable. Build quality is just as commendable, both inside and out.

My entry-level GL tester didn't come will all the bells and whistles Hyundai has to offer, but the equipment level was still reasonable. The controls and instruments are conveniently laid out, making for great ergonomics overall. The HVAC system, however, is not powerful enough to provide decent ventilation.

With interior room worthy of a full-size sedan, the Sonata offers tons of storage space, making it ideal for families. The large size also allows easy access to the front and rear seats and, once on board, passengers feel quite at ease. Behind them is an above-average trunk.

The seats are comfortable and finding a good driving position is easy. Ride quality is excellent thanks to the effective suspension system. On the other hand, the noise level is a bit high though still acceptable.

The seats are comfortable and finding a good driving position is easy.
