Although not as refined in terms of quality and engineering as some of its Japanese and European competitors, the last generation Mercury Cougar remains a solid bet and a good buy due to its greater depreciation. Beyond strictly dollars and cents, the Cougar has a sporty appeal. It's also somewhat of an anomaly in the American automotive scene. The purchase of a Cougar is accompanied with the eligibility to join one of many Cougar car clubs operating in North America. It may have not yet acquired cult status, but has always had cache and thus a loyal following.
