The new model is also not just an ugly face, if you will, since it "has unbelievable, class-leading, off-road capability." So says Clay Dean, who is the brand character chief designer for Hummer. He says, "This truck is untamed and built for individuals with a rugged spirit because it can go anywhere and do anything."
GM wanted the H2 SUT to have exceptional versatility, so the company followed the design of its Chevrolet Avalanche and included the ultra-clever Midgate feature. As a result, claims Dean, the SUT "is one serious machine: functional, versatile and almost endlessly reconfigurable, to exceed even the most demanding consumer's standards. And iit shouldn't be confused for just another grocery-hauler or truck wannabe."
Dean says it "blends a superior off-road capability and versatile rear cargo bed with an adjustable bulkhead and a handsome, no-nonsense interior of polished metal, leather and fabric, and state-of-the-art telematics."
To prove the seriousness of the H2 SUT's intent, Dean explained that the short overhangs of the SUT concept vehicle allow for radical approach and departure angles and exceptional ground clearance for minimal impact on trails. There are also towing hooks and receiver hitches anchor both ends of the vehicle, steel bumpers designed with removable corner pieces for maneuvering on more difficult off-road trails, and an optional winch that attaches to either the front or rear bumper.
For off-road geeks, this is all big, big news.
At the same time, Dean said, the 17-inch wheels and heavy-duty independent front suspension and 5-link rear suspension provide superior handling, carrying and towing capability.
