Also, the large side mirrors fold in at the touch of a button, shrinking its girth in a tight squeeze.
Still it's out on the open highway where the big machine truly shines. Comfort reigns supreme as a computer-controlled road sensing suspension system smoothes the ride. As well, GM's StabiliTrak anti-understeer/oversteer system, keeps things safe when the road gets wet and slippery. Just put it in cruise and the long wheelbase SUV absorbs all the heaves and dips a road can throw at you, transforming an arduous journey through inclement weather conditions into a relaxing afternoon reclined in your favorite leather chair.
With its multiple power adjustments, it's the Cadillac's heated driver's seat is exceptionally comfortable. Set the automatic climate control to the optimum temperature and surround yourself in premium sound via the dash-mounted 6CD, 11-speaker Bose Acoustimass audio system - luxury features abound. Cadillac has enhanced what is essentially a GM truck interior with attractive appointments, giving the Escalade an upscale appeal. Still there's no hiding its pick-up truck roots, and the quality of plastics and general fit and finish is not up to par with the European and Japanese marques in its category, nor its Cadillac stablemates. As a nice touch though, all gauges are surrounded with an attractive silver chronograph style bezel that also wraps the edges of a blue face analog clock in the center console. The steering wheel is fabricated from leather, as well as real Zebrano wood, while Zebrano accents highlight the door panels. The remaining wood trim on the dash and console, however, only looks authentic.
