DETROIT — The following is a statement by Tom Wallace, Vehicle Line Executive for General Motors (NYSE: GM) Midsize Trucks on Resumption of Production of 2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazers, GMC Envoys, and Oldsmobile Bravadas and Repairs of Recalled SUVs.

"General Motors has identified the cause of the condition that prompted a recall of 6,000 model year 2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazers, GMC Envoys, and Oldsmobile Bravadas. It was traced to a bracket that connects the lower control arm to the vehicle frame. If it would fracture, it may cause separation of the lower control arm from the frame and result in the loss of vehicle control. GM conducted extensive testing to validate the service fix, ensuring the safety of its customers and the quality of its products. Replacement parts are currently being shipped to dealers. Production will resume at the Moraine, Ohio assembly plant on April 19.

"GM created the all-new 2002 Chevy TrailBlazer, GMC Envoy and Oldsmobile Bravada to exceed customers' expectations. GM took this precautionary action to ensure that every vehicle we deliver to customers meets this objective. We thank our dealers and customers for their patience. We are absolutely confident in the safety and quality of our new SUVs and we're excited about the momentum we will create in the marketplace.

"Chevrolet, GMC, and Oldsmobile dealers will repair these vehicles at no cost to the customers. Repaired vehicles will be returned to customers washed and with a full tank of gas.
