Hardly noticeable until needed is VDC (vehicle dynamic control), Infiniti's traction and yaw control system. Other safety features include ventilated disc brakes with ABS, active headrests and dual front and side curtain airbags.

Inside, luxury appointments include genuine bird's eye maple trim, sumptuous leather and every convenience feature imaginable. The seats are comfortable and supportive, and recline in the rear (optional). Scrolling sunshades on aft and side windows protect from scorching rays, while optional rear vents keep backbenchers at the right temperature. The interior's overall design is a feast for the eyes, highlighted by a classic analog clock and an exquisitely detailed chrome cassette deck.

Fortunately function follows form. The Bose sound system is an audiophile's dream, comprising 300 soul-stirring watts, 8-speakers and a CD stacker in the glove box. The system compensates for varying noise levels, such as opening a window, by increasing volume levels. Audio controls that are used more frequently are on the steering wheel and dash, while those used less often can be accessed by voice activation or via an intuitive Command Center. This multifunction screen also controls climate control, trip computer and preferences. Similar to setting preferences on your computer, you can personalize your Q45 exactly the way you like.

Where are its shortcomings? As beautiful as the interior is, the execution fell a bit short. Luxury car owners have been conditioned to expect subtle things like a soft opening glove box. Slightly more important are top grade interior plastics, again not quite up to standard. As a note, the passenger side door lock is hidden out the line of sight, and hard to reach. Such detailed scrutiny might seem like nitpicking given the Q45's other fine attributes, but attention spent to such details is what causes luxury car buyers to commit their substantial investment in the first place. That said everything is relative. Competitive cars with similar performance and luxury features can set you back from $10,000 to $35,000 more.
