Since my tester was a convertible, I expected some exterior noise to penetrate the interior. Jaguar has taken great care of padding the soft top so heavily that this Jag felt like a very quiet sedan. On the minus side, the roofline is very low and with the soft top in place, visibility is somewhat difficult. But lower the top (which is a one-button operation that unlocks the roof at the front, lower the windows and folds the roof) and the visibility becomes a lot better.
I could talk about this car's performance all day long but I still think that people who will buy such a Jag will take great care of it and surely not drive it broadside in the curves with smoke coming out of its wheel wells. Ride is mostly smooth though the large tires have the tendency to wallow on highways with ridges made by truck tires. Steering is precise but a little too smooth and while braking is reassuring, I felt the brake pedal was too soft. The engine gave very strong pulling power without bursts of power usually associated to high performance mills. The transmission worked well but I sometimes felt it kept its first gear on too long.
I really loved driving the XKR Jaguar and I would surely like to own one. It took me only a few days to feel very comfortable with this car but at more than $113,000 (CDN), I know very well I could never afford one...unless I win at the lottery. By the way, what were the numbers last week?
