The Navigators interior is expectedly comfortable, but the seats are best suited to a wider frame than mine. I found myself slipping around on the smooth leather between its side bolsters. Also, I was disappointed with the pick-up truck styling of the dash and excessive use of hard plastics throughout. The same goes for the wood trim. It's purported to be real, but other than the steering wheel which displays a different grain, it looks anything but. As well, while the automatic climate control was easy to use, its fitment in the dash looks like an afterthought. The same goes for the stereo. Another item that was a constant bother was the placement of the power mirror switch, atop the driver's side window ledge. Like most drivers I use this ledge as an armrest and inadvertently bumped it over and over causing my mirror settings to change - a potentially dangerous situation.

That said I was especially impressed with large front and massive rear console bins, the latter capable of swallowing up small children. As well, the big rig is also quite easy to get in and out of due to a wide side step and ample grab handles.

I'm sure that Lincoln will address my few concerns when the Navigator is reborn in the 2003 model year. More likely the new machine will be flaunting features none of us previously knew were missing, as is the case in this luxury SUV segment. As good as this new truck will be there is nothing seriously wrong with the current model. It's built on a good dependable chassis, is endowed with an admirable powertrain and comes fully equipped with luxurious features.
