Reduced mass makes for an improved power to weight ratio for sure but more importantly, it enhances braking. Immediately responsive, the front disc, rear drum set-up is helped along by an anti-lock system as standard equipment. Handling also benefits from light weight and the Sienna is quite agile as a result.
But really, do people buy minivans for their sporting prowess? Not at least as a top priority. Most minivan buyers consider hauling people and cargo first and foremost. At 4,057 L (143.3 cu ft) with all seats removed, the Sienna holds just a hair less than the Dodge Caravan and Ford Windstar and slightly more than GM's front-wheel drive vans. All five rear seats are accessible via two standard sliding doors, de rigueur these days. Also, the middle bench can be replaced by optional captain's chairs for added passenger comfort. Rear seats fold 50/50 and now conveniently slide forward to make room for larger payloads without having to be removed.
Occupants will be adequately pampered as well, especially with XLE or XLE Limited option packages. The XLE includes such luxuries as an 8-speaker JBL audio system, automatic climate control, power driver's seat, leather steering wheel, power rear passenger door and alloy wheels in the former. All of the above plus a 6-disc in-dash CD player, heated leather seats, power moonroof, vehicle skid control (VSC), traction control (TRAC) and brake assist with EBD come standard in the XLE Limited. In LE trim, seats are covered in premium fabric while cruise control, power mirrors, windows, locks and keyless entry are included. Incidentally, these power and convenience features come standard on most competitive models in this price range yet are optional on the base Sienna CE. That said, the entry model does include a 4-speaker, cassette and CD equipped audio system, a tilt steering wheel with audio controls, dual A/C, and rear heater, standard. Yet strangely, the LE comes with dual front seatback pockets while the lesser CE has only a single passenger side pocket - now that's cutting corners. Niggling aside, the Toyota brings a higher quality fit and finish than many of its rivals, superb resale value, Toyota's famous reliability and a list of awards from the likes of J. D. Power and Consumer Reports that is so long that there isn't room print it - easily enough credentials for its loyal customers to overlook the lack of a few standard features.
