"An SUV has certain interior requirements, and space, storage and driving position are paramount," stated Trevor Creed, Senior Vice President, Design, Chrysler Group. "The goal was to accomplish this with a clean and precise design, simple yet elegant and upscale. We started with a clean slate to create an interior design that is uncluttered and crisp, with highly legible instruments and upscale materials. The dark slate leather is offset with Adobe accents, providing for a rich interior look."
The Durango not only boasts more cargo room, but has improved hip, shoulder and legroom for second and third row passengers too. Rear climate and DVD entertainment system controls are accessible from this position, while those up front have access to a large 'fast food' bin at the base of the dash area's metal-finished center stack. Just above an all-new navigation system takes center stage, incorporating audio controls. Also, a redesigned heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) interface includes 3-zone climate control.

The Durango concept's interior is not only functionally improved but offers a higher level of refinement the old SUV doesn't quite match. The power adjustable, two-tone, dark gray and red wine colored leather seats are ultra-comfortable, offering heated cushions for driver and front passenger. They sit an inch (25.4 mm) taller than the current Dodge midsize sport utility, delivering a good view of the road and the attractive instrument cluster. The latter incorporates three extremely large circular white-faced dials edged in brushed metal, that sit behind a purposefully thick 4-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio and cruise control buttons. A long, arcing shroud begins at the driver's left side and spans across the gauges over to the rights side of the center stack, in similar fashion to the current Ram pickup.
