First things first, the new Hybrid doesn't look any more futuristic than Honda's standard Civic model. That's refreshing. Let's face it, the Insight is not aesthetically appealing to everyone especially when viewed from the rear quarter, but the Civic Hybrid will be immediately acceptable to all who generally like Honda cars. The exterior design differences include a subtle modification to the grille - extra chrome on one thick slat instead of two thin ones - and a more pronounced lower front air dam with four separate openings instead of the fossil fuel powered sedans single vent. Unique brightly polished 5-spoke alloy wheels grace the stock wheel arches while color-keyed mirrors add to the upscale look. The rear deck lid gets a tasteful spoiler, while the tail end receives additional chrome trim as well as a 'HYBRID GASOLINE-ELECTRIC' badge on the right side.

The chrome theme continues inside with stimulating results, especially dazzling on and around the console mounted shifter. The central dash area surrounding an AM/FM/CD stereo and vertically arranged three-dial automatic climate control system gets the popular brush-aluminum look. The remainder of the dash consists of graphite colored soft-touch plastics. Storage bins surround driver and passengers making for a user friendly environment. Additional standard features include power windows and locks with remote access, cruise control, tilt steering and dual front as well as side impact airbags. What's more, a Hybrid exclusive fold-down armrest attaches to the right side of the driver's seat. The seats themselves also appear upscale, with a suede-like material that grips the midsection as nicely as it looks.
