styling may be to the eyes, the same set of questions used to critique any competitor must be asked to determine the car's worthiness in its segment. In a class led by rear-driven vehicles, will the front wheel drive GT fit in? Is the quality and desirability there, and in terms of on- road performance, will it be totally entertaining or just another pretty face with a sloppy chassis?

Though it is often taken for granted, styling is among the most important factors in the personal luxury coupe segment. If it doesn't have cachet, what is its purpose? From initial sketches to the prototype on the Geneva stand to what is now a finished product, the GT has changed very little. This is a good thing,

considering it looks fabulous. Rather than using to its own in-house design team, Alfa Romeo turned to fellow Italian stylists Bertone to create a synthesis between classic cues and modern themes.

An exotic blend of influences are apparent, from the stunning Brera concept in the new car's enlarged triangular-shaped grille, to stretched secondary lower intakes. Its top-mounted indicators appear from the 147, while a heaping dose of 156 is obvious in the headlamps and muscular sculpted hood. While the GT features yet another rendition of the famed Alfa family face, it features some shapes not found on any other car. Its understated theme does wonders to the overall look of the GT, as it isn't too bold yet not overly plain.
