A convertible version will arrive in about a year, no doubt sporting a retractable hardtop design to do battle with Mercedes-Benz, Lexus and now Cadillac. Some time later expect an M6 version, just like the previous 6-Series, but this time it will include four more cylinders, a V10 resulting in about 500-hp.

Until then the 645 Ci will hit European roads this fall with North America to follow in early 2004. What will it cost? Being BMW's flagship coupe the base 6-Series should come close to the flagship 7-Series sedan that starts at $96,000 and continues on right up to $103,000. Of course convertible and M6 versions will be substantially more. Without a doubt, whichever trim level, the new 6-Series will be worth every penny to its lucky owner.
