That extra room in the rear is due to a relatively lengthy wheelbase, measuring 2,780 mm. But just because there's ample room inside doesn't mean trunk space is at a premium. Rather its 450 L capacity allows for two bags of golf clubs and a small suitcase, enough for a weekend getaway to Myrtle Beach.

But that's not why I'd buy it. It's more about the driving experience, an ideal power to weight ratio objective that sent BMW engineers on a reduction quest resulting in a featherweight combination of aluminum and composite plastics with steel. It's a light yet extremely rigid, and therefore safe structure. In the end the 645 Ci delivers what many consider to be a perfect 50:50 distribution of weight. I'd have to agree, it's sensational.

A few additional features set the 6-Series apart from the masses, the first being adaptive headlights that 'look' around corners prior to arrival. Also on the list is a head-up display (HUD) system that projects important information right onto the windshield, a good idea that minimizes the need to take a driver's eyes off the road. The 645 also features Active Cruise Control (ACC), which can be set to keep a safe distance from traffic ahead automatically. I also enjoyed the optional LOGIC7 audio system, delivering impressive sound even audiophiles can be proud of.
At the end of a very eventful day I have to admit to being enamored. Few vehicles activate the lust glands, the BMW 645 Ci being one of the rare cases. Will it cause Porsche 911 owners to switch brands? Yes, some at least will be persuaded by the BMW's alluring sheetmetal and superb attention to detail. Rather, many more will be found moving up from cars like the Mercedes-Benz CLK, as well as from other premium marques that don't offer a personal coupe.
