Chevy thought a lot about the ride in the SSR. In order to tout its "roadster" format, the bowtie product planners recognized that the SSR would require a significant dose of sportscar-like handling. The issue is: How to balance sports car handling with the ruggedness needed to haul heavy cargo?

Chevy believes they have struck the perfect balance between the two juxtaposing needs. Up front the SSR benefits from double A-arm independent suspension. In the rear, where the greatest challenge awaited the engineers, the SSR uses a unique 5-link solid rear axle suspension, tailored and tuned to max out handling characteristics while providing rugged, truck-like durability.

Chevy describes it this way, "with its boulevard-cruiser ride and refined roadster handling, the all-new Chevrolet SSR's road manners are a perfect complement to its heritage and unique sporty truck design."
In order to enhance ride comfort and stability in fully loaded conditions the engineers also incorporated a micro-cellular urethane auxiliary spring at the rear.
