Speaking of loading and unloading I'm not a big fan of side-swinging doors, especially when they open towards the road instead of the sidewalk. This is a common problem with vehicles designed in a country that drives on the opposite side of the road, where a door hinged on the right opens up to the sidewalk. But in the end I could probably live with the inconvenient rear door, as the rest of the GX 470 is about as good as it gets. OK, it's not quite as upmarket as a Range Rover or LX 470, but both are about $30,000 more expensive. For me the GX offers all the amenities I would ever need in a wonderfully refined, yet impressively rugged package. It's a real SUV, in a world of pretenders.
