Some will be disappointed that the 2-door coupe version will no longer be available, but still, looking at the 2004's profile makes it evident the new model incorporates coupe-like styling cues just like the '97 to '03 model did. This outgoing Grand Prix was a breakthrough car for Pontiac according to Lynn Myers, Pontiac-GMC general manager. "Our '97 Grand Prix broke the mold by bringing coupe styling to the sedan market, and by setting new benchmarks in handling with its Wide Track system." The new Grand Prix continues on this 'wide-track' appearance theme with large, round fog lamps at each lower front corner, long and wide wraparound headlights just above, and wide overall dimensions compared to overall height.
All in all the new Grand Prix builds on the outgoing model's design with an exciting new shape, accessorized with minimal body cladding - a refreshing change. Still, no one will recognize it as anything other than a Pontiac. Is it capable of pulling customers away from Japanese and European brands? GM certainly hopes so. Given the car's many improvements as well as the General's aggressive incentives and marketing savvy the Grand Prix stands a good chance.
