| The GT3, named after the sports car racing class, appears here in the French colors of Luc Alphand Aventures. The 911 has a storied motorsport career with more Le Mans victories than any other car currently in production within its class. |
What else is improved? Porsche says the GT3 gets a 'sports suspension' package, which is hard to believe as the current 911 is already one of the best handling cars on the planet. Still, the GT3's wider wheels and tires, also lighter than the base car, should do a good job in adding grip. The front wheels are 216 mm (8.5 in) wide and wrapped in 235/40ZR18 rubber while the rear wheels measure 279 mm (11.0 in) wide with 295/30ZR18 tires.
When power is increased it's always a good idea to enhance braking performance and Porsche has done just that. Up front the usual 4-piston monobloc calipers get an additional duo of pistons totaling six, while larger discs with Porsche-patented cooling ducts offer a larger swept area. The now lighter anti-lock brake system (ABS 5.7) has also been improved, resulting in a quicker, more sensitively controlled response. For those who want more braking power, Porsche's Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) discs, standard on the 911 GT2, are optional.
