The 9-3's braking system performs double duty as part of the traction control system (TCS) and triple duty as part of the electronic stability program (ESP). By applying wheel specific braking when excessive yaw or a loss of control is imminent, the 9-3 ESP safely returns the car to a state of automotive prudence - which is exactly what the driver should have been exercising in the first place.

Of course there are unfortunate occasions when technological wizardry and human prudence cannot avoid the unavoidable. Although the Saab 9-3 can't change the course of history, it can help protect you from it. This modern ragtop is equipped with frontal airbags for both front seat occupants and rollover technology consisting of a heavily reinforced windshield frame and active pop-up roll bars. The two pop-up roll bars are nicely concealed behind the rear seat head restraints and are activated when the system's sensors detect a risk of rolling over. Definitely heads above the protection afforded to convertible occupants of yesteryear, which likely amounted to a full head of long hair or an English Tam.

Whether headgear is worn or not, the Saab 9-3 convertible will undoubtedly please the organ within the head and ensure that the attached body is coddled in splendid comfort. In Canada standard 9-3 fare includes all the usual power assists, plus heated seats, dual zone climate control and sumptuous leather. Several option packages are available including a Touring Package that adds xenon headlights, an auto-dimming rearview mirror with integrated garage door opener and compass, an in-dash 6-disc CD changer, parking assist and rain sensing wipers. The Sport Wheel Package will nicely dress the 9-3 with 17-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels featuring tire pressure monitoring. Also available is OnStar telematics as a standalone option.
