A rear spoiler and 17-inch alloy wheels ''add sporty flair on both the SLE and SE models,'' Edmonds notes, and ''standard fog lamps also highlight the wider, more aggressive appearance.''

The four-passenger Convertible provides ''ample headroom and legroom in the front and rear seats,'' Edmonds says, adding that the convertible offers 50 mm more rear headroom with the top up.

That top opens or closes in just 10 seconds with the single touch of a button on the dash, and Edmonds is understandably proud of that.

The Solara droptop is also equipped with an all-window control system, which also allows the driver to open and close all door- and quarter-windows by pressing one button on the instrument panel.

The convertible's 3.3-liter VVT-i V6 produces 225 hp at 5,600 rpm and 240 lb.-ft. of torque at 3,600 rpm, and Edmonds reports that the Variable Valve Timing system ''ensures a broad torque band for sporty response across the engine speed range.''

The V6 is mated solely to a five-speed sequential automatic transmission, and has a gear-ratio spread that's supposed to deliver quick acceleration. ''Electronic controls ensure ultra-smooth shift quality,'' says Edmonds, and ''the driver controls the five-speed sequential automatic with a gated shifter that allows manual shifting for a sporty driving experience.''

The front and rear suspension in the Solara convertible is mounted to anti-vibration sub-frames, which Edmonds says ensures ''a smooth, quiet ride that can be compared with many luxury models. Solara convertible further delivers on its promise of more fun-to-drive performance by using a sport-tuned suspension in both grades.''

Newly tuned springs, front and rear stabilizer bars, and an underbody diamond-shaped brace reduce body roll and pitch, ''resulting in a stable yet enlivened steering feel and response.''

There are four-wheel disc brakes (anti-lock may or may not be standard) with electronic brake-force distribution to ''help provide responsive, reliable, safe stopping power,'' and vehicle stability and traction control systems are optional.

Overall, the Solara convertible is 4890 mm long, 1816 mm wide and 1435 mm tall on a 2,720-mm wheelbase.
