That body design remains unchanged except for the C-pillars, which of course have been removed to make way for the convertible top, and the rear trunklid is also new. While I personally love the coupe's lines, this convertible is particularly sweet. Somehow, the flow of the car's rear quarters comes across even more graceful.

A paragraph or two ago I used the word conventional when speaking of the 6's fabric top, but to more accurate it's anything but. Rather than a traditional raked roofline the soft-top features flying buttresses similar in concept to those on a mid-engine Ferrari convertible, with a near vertical rear window. That window can be lowered while the roof is in place, increasing ventilation flow-through without causing excessive noise or turbulence. The unconventional design causes a double take, but nevertheless integrates well with the overall package.

The roof's convertible mechanism is powered of course, accessible via a dashboard mounted button or the remote key fob, and lowers into a hard tonneau cover just ahead of the trunklid. The entire process takes approximately 20 seconds, and the car doesn't even have to be at a complete stop to complete the process powering up or down at speeds below 32 km/h (20 mph). At higher speeds, even up to 160 km/h (100 mph), conversation between driver and front passenger is still said to be no problem at all, due to extensive aerodynamic testing. Wind flows over and beyond the cockpit rather than merely through it, making for less wind in the hair.
