Remember I mentioned the benefits of a cloth top compared to a folding hardtop? The 6-Series Convertible is capable of 350 liters of cargo in the trunk when the top is up and 300 when down, making it possible to fit in an average sized suitcase and up to two golf bags. Try that in an SL, XLR or SC!

When the top is up exterior noise is said to be low due to polyurethane foam insulation between the rubberized outer layer and inner roof lining. Its quiet demeanor suits the car's luxurious surroundings. Like the coupe, all surfaces are swathed in the highest grade of plastics available, with beautifully finished aluminum accenting prominent areas. The dash itself is a subtle understatement when it comes to techno-gadgetry, other than the large center display hooking up to a much improved i-Drive 2.0 interface.

As tested in the coupe the seats are especially supportive, and covered with various tones of Dakota leather. Those in the back may be compromised though, as convertibles tend to squeeze rear passengers closer together.

No such compromises will be felt when pressing the throttle mind you, with all 333-hp and 325 lb-ft of torque carrying over from the coupe to convertible. The Bi-Vanos and Valvetronic 4.4-L V8 should actually sound even better when the roof is lowered, with its deep rumble at idle and throaty growl under acceleration all the more audible. It is expected to find 100 km/h in only 6.2 seconds, when equipped with the precise shifting 6-speed manual. Like the coupe two additional transmission choices will be available, starting with the 6-speed automatic, featuring manual mode, and ending with BMW's sensational SMG 2.0 sequential manual with steering-wheel mounted paddle shifters.
