An equivalent Mazda 3 Sport GS retails for 21 285$: 1 290$ more than the Spectra5. The 5 will consume less fuel and have a lower resale value but it has an excellent warranty that includes scheduled maintenance for 5 years free of charge. The equipment level is advantageously high in the Spectra5 and it compares favorably to the 3 and a Matrix XR (21 185$ base price). This certainly does make for a very interesting proposition.
Since the top of the line Spectra EX and 5 retail for the same price, it remains to be seen which one will outsell the other. If Kia speaks the truth, the demand for the 5 will far exceed the production numbers. Hopefully long term reliability will exceed expectations.
