Conclusion

The province of Quebec has a long standing affinity for Mazda products. I am no different. Bare with me a few moments while I trot down memory lane. In 1981, my best friend's parents purchased a new 626. I fell in love with the car; it looked cool and it was different (from my parent's 1979 Ford Fairmont wagon). In 1985, my father came home one warm August evening with a brand spankin' new burgundy 626 LX coupe. I was immediately smitten by the sporty look, the 14" alloys and the power sunroof. That day forever sealed my love for cars. My friend and his family went on through three more 626s and three Protegés. My father, after much harassment from yours truly, agreed to pass the 626 on to me. He then purchased a 4-year old 1991 MX-6 GT. I was so envious that I parted with the 626 a year later only to go out a get my own 1989 MX-6 GT.

So you see, Mazda is special to us. Not only that but they also create very enjoyable cars. The RX-8 may not be an RX-7, however it is everything that was best with the 7 except for the Turbo. Mazda took those elements and honed them to perfection and transformed the car into what is now my new benchmark for handling, braking and driving dynamics for the sub $40,000 price range.

Even though the RX-8 has experienced some teething problems, which Mazda has addressed, this car is still a safe bet in the low to mid-priced sports car category. Just be sure to check your oil level on a regular basis.
